Even if you install the best roofing system that money can buy, the protection that it will give you will be incomplete without the support of proper gutters. Your gutters have the crucial job of redirecting water away from your home so that it does not weaken or damage other structures like your windows, siding or even your home’s foundation. But with so many gutter styles available, it can sometimes be daunting to select the right one.
But for the sake of simplicity, let’s focus on the two most popular styles currently in use in the United States: K-style and half-round gutters.
K-Style Gutters
Most homes built in the United States after the 1950s utilize K-style gutters. They are effective and attractive. The term K-style is derived from the profile of the gutters when viewed from the side. Most roofers recommend this type of gutter for modern homes because these gutters can be easily installed without the need for too many brackets and mounting accessories.
They work great with sloped roofing systems and are available in both traditional and seamless styles. They are flat on the side that attaches to the fascia and are popular for homeowners that want to install gutters on their own.
Half-Round Gutters
So-called because they resemble a tube that has been cut in half. A roofing company will recommend that you install half-round gutters if you own an older, historic home. The symmetrical U-shape beautifully compliments the architectural style of yesteryear, which tends to be more rounded than angular. The smooth shape and lack of creases of half-round gutters also prevent water from pooling, are more effective at washing out debris and are generally easier to clean.
