Fire-Proofing the Home: A Necessity During Warm Seasons

It’s that time of the year again when the humidity is low, winds are strong, and temperatures are up. Indeed, it’s fire season again in Maryland. According to a report from patch.com, the authorities have issued warnings about fires already:

Conditions over the next two days are conducive to fires for most of Maryland, and the National Weather Service has issued a pair of alerts as a result.

On Wednesday a red flag warning is in effect, and on Thursday a fire weather watch has been issued, according to the National Weather Service.

A red flag warning means strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures may contribute to “extreme fire behavior,” the weather service reported. Wind gusts Wednesday may be 20 to 30 mph and up to 40 mph in the early evening.

With this in mind, homeowners should be focusing on efforts to fire-proof a home and adding measures to prevent any untoward incident from happening. Roof Masters, one of the trusted roofing contractors in Rockville, MD, advises that the first part you should check is your roof. Dead leaves, twigs, and branches could ignite from embers blown in by the wind. Check your gables and gutters for these types of debris that could catch fire. It’s also important to know the material of your roof and apply the necessary treatments.

Maryland roofers agree that the roof is often the starting point of fires, which is why it should be the focal point of your efforts and additions. You should also inspect your window’s glazing, siding, entry points, and decks for potentially flammable materials and other issues so you can address them immediately. Don’t allow your home to become a part of a statistic of all the houses that burn down during fire season. Call Roof Masters to find out more about what you can do to prevent costly accidents.
